I’ll be playing a solo piano set of Brazilian music as part of this neighborhood festival, with several other groups at nearby locations in Albany, CA throughout the afternoon.

I’m honored to be sharing the stage as a guest on the Choro Suite, arranged by Felipe Senna, with some great folks in the Berkeley Choro Ensemble and Diablo Symphony Orchestra, including featured pandeiro soloist Brian Rice, and guest bassoonist Paul Hanson!

This varied program highlights a range of beautiful music from Brazil, including the world premiere of a concerto for pandeiro, the Brazilian tambourine. We also premiere local composer Jean Ahn’s new work for the Diablo Symphony’s 60th anniversary and present Milhaud’s uproarious work, envisioned to be played with any film by Charlie Chaplin, providing a lighthearted finale to the season.

This week I was supposed to be in Portland for New Music Gathering but they expanded it into a 2-week virtual event!

I’m co-presenting a session called Holistic Health and Sustainable Self-Care Strategies with flutist Andrea Brachfeld at this year’s Chamber Music America conference in New York City - description below:

While traditional music training covers artistry and technique, an important aspect in maintaining a successful career as a musician is often overlooked. Self-care involves knowing what you need as an individual and applying it to your daily life. This session will present useful techniques and self-care tools that can be used to improve and enhance one’s professional and personal capabilities, and explain how to make small changes toward healthy habits with lasting effects. Participants will learn how to adjust their mindset to support their goals, how to make their schedules work for them, and how to direct their energy toward a more rewarding life. This workshop will allow attendees to discuss these topics openly and leave feeling empowered to address their personal needs effectively.

I’ve been accompanying this fun group all season, and we’ll be joined by a backing band for this program of a variety of uplifting music to kick off the beginning of the holiday season - Christmas, Hanukkah, and Solstice songs. We're premiering my new trio (featuring 3 movements, each in a different Brazilian style), Aaron's 2nd trio (minimalism meets grindcore, with strings, and a brand new 3rd movement), as well as Tom Patterson's 2nd Trio.

I'll be playing Brazilian percussion once again with Batucada do Norte to celebrate this year's Carnaval - always a blast!

Over 50 singers, drummers, samba dancers, capoeiristas (Brazilian martial artists) and artisans will transform The Cedar into an authentically festive Brazilian cultural experience! Guitarist/vocalist Robert Everest and his ten-piece group Beira Mar Brasil will host the very unique Carnaval Brasileiro Masquerade Ball.
