Carnaval in Rio is officially underway! You can find coverage (and hopefully streaming video this weekend) here. 

This week's pick is another samba enredo: Trevas! Luz! A Explosão do Universo (Darkness! Light! The Explosion of the Universe!), performed by the Viradouro samba school in 1997, featuring the great Carnaval singer Dominguinhos de Estácio. This song led them to victory that year. 

Below you can also see lots of footage of Viradouro in the 1997 Carnaval parade (over an hour's worth!)
