During the month of January all 25 of the kids in my studio participated in our sight reading challenge. Sight reading is playing a piece that is being seen for the first time (at first sight), which helps develop music reading skills. In this challenge, each link of the chain represented one short sight reading example completed. I challenged students to see how many times they could make the chain wrap around the room, and we made it to 2+ times around the room, with 325 links! Thanks to a great suggestion from student Oliver, we'll be making this a standard January activity, and continue to see if we can beat our average.
