Brazilian Music Friday Feature #9

Happy (inter)National Samba Day, a holiday in Brazil with many celebrations and events. Of course we have to celebrate samba today!

This week’s pick is Samba de Mulher by Léa Freire and Joyce Moreno. I was lucky enough to be able to meet and study with Léa at California Brazil Camp this summer, and we performed this song in her jazz ensemble class.

Samba de Mulher means “samba for women” - at this time (and always), it’s so important to me to preserve the rights of women and to support strong women. This song also has a very uplifting sound!
